Samsung Galaxy SL Smartphone

Posted in Galaxy-Series on February 7th, 2011

By now you’re familiar with Samsung’s Galaxy S lineup, the set of smartphones that sold millions during the 4th quarter of last year and is on track to release the next generation of its smartphones with dual core processors and updated screens. But before that day comes, Samsung has let the cat out of the bag concerning the Galaxy SL.

Said device is an Android smartphone with a Super LCD panel and an OMAP3 chipset manufactured by Texas Instruments. This would mean that instead of using their very own Super AMOLED display and Hummingbird processor, the company will be opting for competitors technology. This could be for a number of reasons including the fact that Samsung might consider the SL to be a lower range smartphone and not necessarily on the same playing field of the Epic 4G, or other Android smartphones the company manufactures.

It could also mean that the company is saving resources for its upcoming Galaxy S2 devices. For a long while, Samsung’s Super AMOLED displays have been in great demand by manufactures and because of that the company has been running into shortage problems and with 80 million mobile phones sold last quarter, it doesn’t look like that demand will be slowing down for anytime soon.

For those who do a lot of text viewing on the cellphones, the LCD based screen on the SL might be better since the display is optimized for text and at such will appear a lot sharper vs. Super AMOLED which features technology similar to antialiasing and allow images, videos and other games to appear very smooth but text not as sharp as it might have appeared had it been on an LCD device.
