In our humble opinion, Samsung really have stolen the lead in the touchscreen markets recently. With numerous handsets announced one after the other, from the i7500 to the new iterations of the Jet and Omnia handsets, we’ve seen a lot of quality indeed. The Samsung Tocco Lite seems to be the exception to prove the rule though, because there’s just about nothing that sets this phone apart from the crowd. But that, though, is part of the point really, because the Samsung Tocco Lite is all about being budget (and more specifically, all about going head-to-head with the LG Cookie).

So, what are you getting for your not-a-lot-of money? Full touch: check. The popular (because it’s great) TouchWiz interface: check. Half decent camera: check. A complete lack of 3G or Wifi… erm… check. And this is where we think this thing might stumble a little bit. Fair enough, if you don’t want or need all that much internet connectivity and just want a bit of a flashy run of the mill phone, this might be alright, but as things such as the official page seem to suggest, Samsung seem to think that their customers here are all about being connected, about updating their Facebook, checking their Myspace, blogging the bloggable parts of their lives. And doesn’t it just seem that trying to do all that view the ‘power’ of WAP is just a little daft.

Anyway, maybe we’re being a but harsh. As we said, this is a more than competent, truly full-touch-screen phone and if you want a little bit of that in your life, then the Tocco Lite could be just what the doctor ordered. Check out this Samsung Tocco Lite review for some more stats and figures, or have a little look at th is TV ad we found (Star is what this phone’s called in India):

Samsung have announced the impending release of a whole new raft of Omnia mobile phones. These handsets are aimed at different users depending on what their requirements are for a mobile phone. Of course these handsets are priced accordingly relating to their features. We will be doing a more in depth review of each handset in due course, however here is a lowdown of what you can expect from the new Omnia series of Mobile phones due for release later this year.

Samsung Omnia II
The Samsung Omnia 2 will boast the largest AMOLED display of any mobile phone handset available. It will run on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and is suited for those users who demand a complete multimedia experience on their smartphone. The interface is customisable and incorporates Samsungs innovative TouchWiz user interface.

Samsung Omnia Pro
Again a touchscreen mobile phone. The Samsung Omnia Pro has a Qwerty keyboard as well to make typing emails that much quicker and easier. It supports Microsoft Office Suite so you can view and edit Microsoft documents on the move. The Omnia Pro also comes with the Opera web browser allowing youto view web pages on a PC like platform. Is this a Blackberry Contender? We shall see.

Samsung Omnia Lite
The Samsung Omnia Lite, looks a little like the Omnia HD, it is the slimmer more affordable version of the new Omnia family. It comes with the innovative Touch Wiz 2.0 user interface as well as downloadable online widgets to enhance user customisation. The Omnia Lite also comes with Microsoft Office Suite, allowing you to edit documents on the move. A truly great all rounder of a phone.

Samsung have stated that all of the above Omnia phones will be fully upgradeable to the new Windows Mobile 6.5 OS when it is released, future proofing your device for the next year at least. Is Samsung the jack of all trades and master of none, or have they cornered the market with these new devices? We will let you be the judge of that.
