Ah, Preston… it’s one of those places that brings back warm fuzzy memories for us. Reminds of of our northern routes. Of all the casual violence, cheap trebles, orange-faced women and a music scene stuck in about 1998. All very nostalgic indeed. What’s slightly confusing though… no, scratch that. What’s utterly baffling is why a phone manufacturer would want to name there phone after such a place. Because that’s exactly what’s happened with the Samsung S5600 Preston. With so many names out there, so many random words and numbers and funny symbols and, well, so many things other than depressed Lancashire cities to name your phone after, you’ve got to wonder what it’s all about.

Frankly though, we’re going to leave the detective work to you, because our remit extends only to the phone itself, only to pointing you towards Samsung Preston deals, for example, or sticking a grubby finger up and saying go hither towards Samsung’s official page. You’ve seen much of this before, in fact, because the S5600 is little more than an update of the obscenely successful Tocco Lite. And, well, that can only be a good thing, right? Because as mid-range (i.e. not ridiculously expensive) touchscreens went, the Tocco Lite was a right little humdinger. And fair enough you lose a bit of touchscreen size with this one, but we think that’s more than made up for by the addition of the 3G, the GPS and the tweaks to the camera. Don’t believe us? Samsung’s new touch phone S5600 carries all the features a mobile phone should. Samsung announced about it not so long ago and it’s expected to release in the European markets in May 2009.
The S5600 sports a 2.8inch QVGA screen and a 3MP camera which comes coupled with Smile Shot feature and video capturing. You can use the accelerometer to rotate the screen to either portrait or landscape when you’re holding the phone either way.
It’s 103mmx55mmx12.9mm of size and weighs only 96g so it would not be any trouble carrying it around or sliding it into your pocket or handbag easily. Plus it looks very business-like and fashionable at the same time so it can easily market itself to both corporate and youthful customer segments. Running on Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface, the phone looks good while being used also, and is very easy to use.
The Samsung S5600 comes in quad-band GSM at 850/900/1800/1900MHz and dual-band UMTS at 900/2100MHz. You can also get high speed internet access using HSDPA. The Shazam music recognition feature would be the delight of every music lover because with this feature you can identify the names of audio tracks. The S5600 also features Gesture Lock where you can lock and unlock the phone by drawing a symbol on the display. The battery is 1000mAh and it can give you up to 3hrs talk time and 12.5days standby time. There’s internal memory availability of 80MB but it can be extended with the use of microSD slot if needed.
